As Toronto ushers in the first day of autumn, residents are in for a surprise—warm, humid conditions make it feel more like mid-July than late September! This unseasonably warm weather caps off a September that has defied traditional fall expectations.

Environment Canada forecasts a balmy high of 25 °C today, with humidity pushing the feel closer to 30 °C! Expect mostly cloudy skies and a 60% chance of showers, possibly accompanied by a thunderstorm in the afternoon. As evening approaches, temperatures will only cool down to a mild 17 °C.

This warm spell continues a September trend of summer-like days, where highs routinely reached the mid-20s, far above the seasonal average of 19 °C. Even nights have been unusually warm, hovering above the typical 10 °C, keeping evenings pleasantly mild.

While some rain has sprinkled the city, the majority of the month has been characterized by sunny, dry weather, allowing Torontonians to savor the summer vibe well after Labor Day.

When Does Toronto Usually Feel Like Fall?

According to historical data from Environment Canada, Torontonians can usually expect the first taste of "fall-like" temperatures—daytime highs around 20 °C or lower—in the final third of September.

For instance, this time last year, the thermometer indicated highs of about 18-21 °C in late September. This year, however, we had a late start to the fall chill, with September 20th-22nd marking the first stretch of true autumn highs.

What’s Next for the Weather?

Looking ahead, the warm trend will persist a bit longer! Environment Canada predicts a sunny Tuesday with temperatures reaching around 23 °C, followed by a slight drop to a cooler but sunnier Wednesday at 20 °C.

By the end of the week, expect temperatures to align more closely with the September average, settling in the range of 19-20 °C during the day and dipping into the low teens at night.
