In a heartfelt statement, Sidney Crosby has made it clear that his loyalty lies firmly with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The seasoned team captain, now 38, expressed his desire to continue with the only franchise he's ever known, during a recent event where he delivered tickets to excited season-ticket holders.
As he prepares for his 21st NHL season, Crosby is currently in the first year of a lucrative two-year, $17.4 million contract.
Crosby addressed swirling rumors about his future, stating, "There are a lot of narratives out there, and I don’t think many come from me. This is where I want to be. I love it here." The frustration was palpable as he tackled the persistent speculation regarding his potential departure.
"I can’t keep having to answer the same question over and over due to these narratives," he added. "If people want to write or say that, that’s fine. I can’t control that. When you lose and things happen, I suppose it’s expected for those rumors to arise—but that’s truly how I feel."
A Legacy of Greatness
Drafted first overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Penguins from the QMJHL’s Rimouski Oceanic, Crosby has since built an extraordinary legacy in the sport.
With three Stanley Cups, two Hart Trophies, two Conn Smythe Trophies, and two Art Ross Trophies under his belt, his accolades speak volumes. He has been named an All-Star eight times and has amassed an impressive 625 goals and 1,062 assists in 1,352 career games.
His 1,687 points rank him ninth in NHL history, and he trails only Mario Lemieux by 36 points for the Penguins’ all-time lead.
International Triumphs and Honors
Crosby's excellence extends beyond the NHL. He has proudly represented Canada multiple times on the international stage, clinching gold medals at the Olympics in 2010 and 2014, as well as victories at the World Junior Hockey Championship and the IIHF World Championship.
His accolades also include a World Cup of Hockey title and a Four Nations Face-Off championship as recent as February.
As Crosby gears up for another season, his commitment to the Penguins and passion for the game continue to resonate with fans and players alike.
