In a dramatic twist just days after its launch, Northrop Grumman’s latest supply ship has encountered engine issues, leading to a delay in crucial deliveries to the International Space Station (ISS).

Launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, the Cygnus capsule made its ascent on a SpaceX rocket Sunday, only to face unexpected challenges when its main engine shut down prematurely during an orbital boost attempt.

Originally scheduled to dock on Wednesday, this vital mission carried more than 11,000 pounds (5,000 kilograms) of essential cargo, including food and scientific experiments for the seven crew members aboard the ISS. The shipment also included spare parts for the station's toilet and other critical systems.

This mission marked the inaugural flight of Northrop Grumman's new Cygnus XL model, designed to transport even larger payloads to space.

As Northrop works closely with flight controllers to devise an alternative plan, this setback raises concerns. The company is one of NASA’s primary cargo partners, alongside SpaceX, with additional support coming from Russian deliveries to the 260-mile-high orbiting laboratory.
