In a startling operation that has rattled the small town of Lafleche, Saskatchewan, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) seized an astonishing 31 firearms from a residential property and a nearby rural yard site. Two individuals have been charged in connection with this alarming discovery.

The significant operation took place on November 8 at approximately 11:25 a.m., involving multiple divisions of the Saskatchewan RCMP, including the Swift Current Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team, police dog services from the Gravelbourg RCMP detachment, the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team, and the Regina Police Service Crime Reduction Team. The collaboration among these units underscores a unified approach towards maintaining public safety.

Aside from the firearms, the authorities seized a variety of dangerous items, including ammunition, brass knuckles, five prohibited devices, and a small quantity of psilocybin, commonly known as magic mushrooms. Such items pose serious risks to the community, prompting law enforcement to act decisively.

“This removal of dangerous weapons from our community is a prime example of how police services – and RCMP units – in Saskatchewan work collaboratively to promote public safety,” stated S/Sgt. Danny Donison, the manager of the Saskatchewan Enforcement Response Teams (SERT) for the south region, in a press release.

In a further twist, a stolen vehicle was recovered at the scene of the investigation. Three individuals were apprehended, with two men and one woman being taken into custody; however, one man was released without charges shortly thereafter.

The charges against the residents, a 46-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman from Lafleche, are serious and include careless storage of firearms, storing loaded firearms, and possessing firearms without a license, among other offenses. In addition, the man faces five additional weapon-related charges as well as a charge for possession of property obtained through crime exceeding $5,000.

The consequences of this operation are being closely monitored, as both individuals are set to appear in court in the coming months. The man had his first appearance in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on November 12, and his next court date is scheduled for December 12. Meanwhile, the woman’s court appearance in Assiniboia is set for January 9, 2025.

Lafleche, a peaceful community located approximately 204 kilometers southwest of Regina, remains shaken by these developments, highlighting pressing issues of firearm safety and crime in rural areas.
