Bill Collins and his team from the University of Reading utilized advanced computer modeling to predict the warming effects of ozone changes between 2015 and 2050. They meticulously factored in variables like humidity, cloud formation, and surface reflectivity. Their findings, published in *Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics*, indicate that sticking to the air pollution controls established by the Montreal Protocol in 1987 may paradoxically result in more warming, essentially counteracting the climate benefits gained from phasing out ozone-depleting substances like CFCs and HCFCs.

By the year 2050, the researchers forecast that ozone itself could become the second-largest contributor to global warming, trailing only behind carbon dioxide.
