SINGAPORE – As the clock ticks down to the next general election, a potential candidate poised to take the place of former MP Raeesah Khan has made a strong commitment to the residents of Compassvale in Sengkang GRC. Mr. Abdul Muhaimin Abdul Malik, a seasoned property manager at Aljunied-Hougang Town Council (AHTC), has declared his intentions to tackle lift-related issues that have been a pressing concern for residents.

In a recent Instagram post, Mr. Muhaimin, who is eyeing the four-member constituency, stated that he plans to work closely with the existing WP MPs to address the root causes of the persistent lift problems in the estate. His proactive approach to lifting the spirits and quality of life in Sengkang GRC is notable, especially as lifts are critical for the elderly and families in Singapore.

Boasting nearly a decade of experience in managing lift operations since August 2015, Muhaimin has showcased an understanding of what it takes to ensure that these vital systems run safely and efficiently. He articulated his commitment: “Asking the right questions, listening closely, and pushing for fixes – that’s how we lift Sengkang GRC up, together.”

Mr. Muhaimin is not new to the Compassvale community, having actively participated in monthly Meet-The-People Sessions under the mentorship of Aljunied GRC MP Faisal Manap. This hands-on involvement underlines his dedication to the community and his commitment to understanding residents' needs.

With Raeesah Khan's departure from politics in late 2021, the WP has been in search of a suitable candidate to fill her void. Klang was segmented among her remaining teammates - Ms. He Ting Ru, Mr. Louis Chua, and Associate Professor Jamus Lim. Though the WP has not yet officially named Mr. Muhaimin as a candidate, the recent establishment of a Facebook page identifying him as a political figure, coinciding with an Instagram account showcasing his groundwork, hints at a strategic campaign in the works.

Adding to the urgency, the Elections Department recently confirmed that at least one candidate from the Malay community is requisite for Sengkang GRC. Mr. Muhaimin’s increased visibility at community events this year aligns well with these developments, as he has engaged residents during various occasions, including mass break-fast celebrations and the celebratory visits during Hari Raya Puasa.

Examining his qualifications, Mr. Muhaimin's academic background includes a degree in mechanical engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and experience as a platoon commander during his national service with the Singapore Civil Defence Force. His professional journey at AHTC began as an assistant lift manager, eventually leading to broader project management responsibilities, showcasing his capabilities in governance.

Under his leadership, AHTC has garnered top ratings for its cleanliness, maintenance, and lift performance in the past financial years. Remarkably, Sengkang Town Council achieved full scoring in all management areas recently, marking a significant milestone in town council operations.

As Sengkang gears up for the upcoming elections, the spotlight remains on Mr. Abdul Muhaimin Abdul Malik and his promise to improve lift services and community engagement. Will he be the catalyst for change that the residents of Compassvale have been waiting for? Only time will tell! Stay tuned as we follow this developing story.
