Warning: 7 Popular Drink Products Found Contaminated with Dangerous Medications—Avoid Them at All Costs!

In a shocking revelation, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has issued a stern warning to consumers to steer clear of seven drink products that have been identified as containing unapproved medicinal substances. The warning, released on November 14, has caused alarm among health-conscious individuals and casual drinkers alike.

The products in question include the Berryshine Pure Enzyme Fiber with Prebiotics and six distinct flavors of BUM Energy Drinks: Blue Snow Cone, Champion Mentality, Peach Mango, Cherry Frost, Citrus Burst, and Orange Sunrise. These drinks were found on various e-commerce platforms, raising concerns about the safety of online purchases.

Digging deeper, the SFA disclosed that the Berryshine drink, marketed as a health-fiber enzyme beverage, contains sennosides. These potent compounds are typically used to treat constipation and facilitate bowel cleansing prior to surgical procedures. The potential side effects of sennosides include abdominal pain, spasms, and diarrhea—concerns that no consumer wants to grapple with after a refreshing drink.

Adding to the alarm, despite being marketed as a local product, the Berryshine drink is actually imported from Malaysia, casting doubt on its formulation and safety standards.

On the other hand, the BUM Energy Drinks are packed with citicoline, a substance used in medical treatment for stroke victims and those suffering from traumatic brain injuries and neurological disorders. While it may sound beneficial, common side effects—such as insomnia, headaches, dizziness, blood pressure fluctuations, and shortness of breath—make consuming these drinks a risky endeavor. Notably, all flavors of BUM Energy Drinks are sourced from the United States, further complicating their regulation.

In response to this troubling discovery, the SFA has enlisted the cooperation of e-commerce platforms to promptly remove these hazardous products from their listings and has urged sellers to cease all sales immediately.

The SFA has also issued an important health advisory: Anyone who has consumed these problematic beverages and is experiencing health issues should seek medical attention without delay. Moreover, consumers are urged to exercise caution and conduct thorough research on food products from unknown or unverified sources before making a purchase.
