Warning: Imminent Danger from Heavy Rain!
Brace yourselves, Malaysia! With the arrival of the north-east monsoon, more than 1,000 slopes across the nation are on high alert for potential collapse, as revealed by Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi. This alarming situation arises just as heavy rains are anticipated to drench the country once again.
Slopes Under Surveillance: Count and Risk Levels
In a nationwide assessment, authorities have pinpointed a staggering 34,400 slopes—27,072 in the peninsula alone, along with 2,969 in Sarawak, 4,178 in Sabah, and 181 in Labuan. Out of these, a total of 1,066 slopes in the peninsula are identified as critically at risk, along with seven in Sabah, one in Sarawak, and 13 in Labuan.
Strategic Measures in Place
Fortunately, not all slopes are categorized as high-risk. The government is on its toes, regularly monitoring these precarious slopes through the Disaster Operations Room. According to Mr. Nanta, the Public Works Department (JKR) is taking proactive steps by preparing essential supplies and implementing safety and traffic management strategies for these unstable areas.
Alternative Routes to Secure Safety
In a bid to keep citizens safe, alternative routes have been established for roads vulnerable to disruptions due to landslides or flooding. This initiative reflects the commitment of Malaysian authorities to safeguard lives and property during this critical weather period.
Stay Informed and Stay Safe!
With nature's unpredictability, it's crucial for residents to stay informed. The government urges everyone to heed official warnings and be prepared for the coming rains. Together, let’s navigate through this tumultuous season safely!
