Authorities from Thailand and Myanmar in Search of Missing Model

Authorities from both Thailand and Myanmar continue to grapple with the puzzling disappearance of Chinese model Yang Zeqi, whose last known location was in Mae Sot district, Tak province, near the Thailand-Myanmar border. Despite ongoing investigations, there has been no trace of the 30-year-old model since he last communicated with friends on December 21.

Collaborative Efforts to Locate Yang Zeqi

Colonel Natthakorn Reuntip, head of the Ratchamanu Task Force in Tak, confirmed on January 16 that he is working closely with Myanmar officials to locate Yang but, regrettably, they have yet to uncover any leads regarding his current status. It has come to light that Yang arrived in Thailand from Beijing Daxing International Airport, landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport on December 20. His trip was reportedly prompted by a message via WeChat, informing him that he had successfully passed an audition for a film.

Concerns Raised by Yang's Communication

After arriving, Yang took a vehicle arranged by the film crew, which transported him towards the border region. Disturbingly, on December 21, he sent a message expressing feelings of depression, followed by a video call to his mother on December 29, which raised concerns among his family.

Family's Alarm and Abduction Fears

Yang's father took the alarming step of filing a missing person report with Thailand's national police chief, Pol Gen Kitrat Phanphet, convinced that his son may have fallen victim to a sinister abduction scheme across the border, potentially coerced into working for a criminal call center, reminiscent of another case involving Chinese actor Xingxing, who was rescued under similar circumstances earlier this month.

Warnings Issued by Thai Authorities

In response to the growing fears of abduction and exploitation, Thai authorities have erected large warning signs near the Tak border. These signs, presented in Thai, English, and Chinese, caution the public about notorious gangs that lure victims with promises of lucrative employment in Myanmar’s illicit job market. The messages make it clear that these enticing offers often end in dire consequences, including financial loss, enforced labor, and, for some, a complete loss of freedom.
