Fire Breaks Out at Jalan Kayu Housing Block

In a startling incident on May 12, an electrical riser ignited chaos at a Housing & Development Board (HDB) block in Jalan Kayu, leading to a resident being rushed to the hospital and a temporary power disruption for several units.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received the alarming alert at approximately 9:30 AM about the fire at 447B Jalan Kayu. Their quick response managed to contain the blaze, which was fueled by materials within the electrical riser on the 10th floor.

Resident Suffers Breathing Difficulties

A man was taken to the hospital due to breathing difficulties, as reported by Jalan Kayu's Member of Parliament, Ng Chee Meng, in a Facebook update. Mr. Ng personally visited the site to connect with residents impacted by the fire.

Power Restoration Updates and Community Support

In a follow-up post at 12:41 PM, Ng stated that lift services had been restored, and full electricity supply is anticipated to resume by 9 PM that evening. To assist those affected, a Residents’ Network facility was opened, offering a comfortable place to rest and recharge.

Investigation Underway

While the immediate crisis seems to be under control, authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of this alarming fire. Interestingly, a similar incident occurred just weeks prior at block 447A, where another electrical riser caught fire, sending two individuals to the hospital.
