The music world is in mourning after the sudden death of beloved Indian singer Zubeen Garg, who passed away on September 19 in Singapore following a tragic scuba diving accident.

Zubeen was originally in Singapore to perform at the North East Festival, an event celebrating the rich culture and heritage of India’s northeastern region. However, his management team, led by Shyamkanu Mahanta, revealed that a last-minute yacht excursion with local Assamese community members occurred without their prior knowledge.

In an emotional statement released on Facebook, Mahanta expressed their shock over the incident, sharing that Zubeen had arrived just a day earlier, full of enthusiasm to meet fans and participate in the festival set for September 20.

"In between our meetings with prominent Singaporean business leaders to foster investments for the northeastern states, we received the heartbreaking news from Zubeen's manager that he had suffered an accident and was rushed to the Singapore General Hospital," the statement read.

While the team was occupied with critical discussions, Garg's leisure activity took a horrific turn, leading to his serious health crisis during the dive. Reports indicated he experienced severe breathing complications, necessitating immediate medical attention.

On September 20, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that the post-mortem was completed and that Zubeen's remains were being handled by officials from the Indian High Commission.

Zubeen Garg, a cultural icon and voice of Assam, was aged 52 at the time of his passing. The news has resonated deeply, not just among fans but also with Indian political figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who shared his condolences on X, expressing shock and remembering Garg's significant contributions to music.

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi also weighed in, describing Garg's demise as a "terrible tragedy" and highlighting how the singer's voice had a profound impact on a generation.

As the music community remembers Zubeen Garg, his legacy as a vibrant artist who touched countless lives will undoubtedly live on.
