SINGAPORE: A devastating chain collision in Tampines, resulting in the deaths of two individuals including a promising junior college student, is now facing its next legal chapter. Muhammad Syafie Ismail, 44, is poised to plead guilty on October 23.

This tragic incident unfolded in April 2024 at the busy intersection of Tampines Avenue 1 and Tampines Avenue 4, where Syafie faces a staggering five charges under the Road Traffic Act.

The Reckless Drive that Changed Lives Forever

According to the allegations, Syafie's recklessness began as he drove wildly along Bedok Reservoir Road before making a perilous lane change to overtake another vehicle. This led to a deadly 'sideswipe collision' that caused one car to veer off and scrape against the kerb.

Further escalating the situation, Syafie ran a red light, leading to a crash involving three cars. The aftermath was catastrophic: 17-year-old Afifah Munirah Muhammad Azril from Temasek Junior College lost her life, along with 57-year-old Norzihan Juwahib who was a passenger in a van. The van even collided with a minibus, injuring an 11-year-old boy.
