In a heart-wrenching incident on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE), a 36-year-old motorcyclist lost his life on the morning of September 9.

Authorities, including the police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), received reports of the collision around 6:30 AM. The crash occurred on the slip road leading to the Bukit Timah Expressway, en route to the Seletar Expressway.

Despite paramedics' best efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Another motorcyclist, aged 32, was taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, where he remains conscious and is now cooperating with ongoing investigations.

Footage shared on social media platforms reveals the chaotic aftermath: a motorcycle wreckage, a tow truck, and multiple police vehicles clustered in the rightmost lane of the expressway. Scenes of debris scattered across the road and a blue tent erected to cover the body paint a somber picture of the tragic event.

Recent statistics from the Traffic Police indicate a worrying spike in fatal accidents, with 78 incidents recorded in the first half of 2024—up from 70 during the same period last year. This grim increase reflects a rise in fatalities from 72 to 79.

As the community grapples with the sorrow of this loss, police investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
