In a significant diplomatic move, Singapore's Defence Minister Chan Chun Sing is gearing up for his inaugural visit to China from September 15 to 18.
During his stay in Beijing, Chan, who also holds the role of Coordinating Minister for Public Services, will engage in discussions with top Chinese officials and deliver a keynote address at the prominent 12th Beijing Xiangshan Forum.
This prestigious forum assembles influential leaders from the realms of defence, military, and international affairs to tackle pressing global security challenges. Co-organized by the China Association of Military Sciences and the China Institute for International Strategic Studies, this year's theme—"upholding international order and advancing peaceful development"—reflects a commitment to global cooperation.
The Ministry of Defence (Mindef) emphasized that Chan's visit highlights the enduring and amicable defence ties between Singapore and China, signaling a positive trajectory in bilateral relations.
Accompanying him will be Major-General Cai Dexian, the Chief of Army, along with other officials from the Ministry, reinforcing the strong representation from Singapore.
On his itinerary, Chan will tour the People's Liberation Army (PLA) National Defence University, engaging in a round-table discussion with senior PLA personnel and provincial leaders.
Additionally, he will visit the PLA Southern Theatre Command in Guangzhou, along with a tour of the STC Navy in Zhanjiang, emphasizing Singapore's active role in fostering defence cooperation in the region. This visit is poised to strengthen ties and promote dialogue on security matters critical to both nations.
