Researchers at the University of Utrecht have made a groundbreaking discovery: common respiratory viral infections like influenza and COVID-19 could wake dormant cancer cells, significantly boosting the chances of metastatic disease and cancer-related deaths.

Further analysis reveals the stark reality: cancer patients diagnosed five to ten years earlier were three times more likely to succumb to their illness after contracting COVID-19 during its peak in 2020-2021. Worryingly, women with breast cancer who also contracted COVID-19 had a staggering 44% higher risk of developing metastatic breast cancer in their lungs!
