SINGAPORE: A 22-year-old man, Muhammad Sajid Saleem, has been slapped with a murder charge following a deadly group confrontation that left a young victim dead near Verdun Road. On Friday, September 27, Saleem was escorted by police back to the site of the alleged crime, alongside three other suspects implicated in the violence.
The tragic incident unfolded around 4 AM on Sunday, leading to the unfortunate fatality of 25-year-old Dhinessh Vasie. Witnesses reported a chaotic scene, with blood splatters evident on the pavement near a coffee shop and outside the Novotel Singapore hotel, highlighting the brutality of the altercation.
During his revisit of the crime scene, Saleem arrived in a blue vehicle, visibly restrained in his clothing—sporting a red polo shirt and dark shorts. Accompanied by law enforcement, he traversed a designated route through a cordoned-off alley, stopping intermittently, which may indicate attempts to reconstruct the events leading up to the incident.
In addition to Saleem, three other suspects charged with rioting—Kirrthik Roshan Prem Ananth (22), Pradave Shashi Kumar (20), and Satish Jason Prabahas (23)—were later brought to the scene. Clad similarly in white polo shirts and dark shorts, their movements mirrored Saleem’s route, reinforcing the gravity of their involvement.
A total of six individuals are now facing legal consequences: they include 24-year-olds Nur Diyana Harun Al Rasheed and Kasthuri Kallidas Marimuthu. Notably, at least one suspect was armed with a lethal weapon at the time of the riot. Authorities report that the incident resulted in injuries to three individuals—besides Dhinessh, victims also included Naviinjaay C Nathan and K Vicknesh.
Under Singapore’s strict legal framework, a murder charge carries the potential for the death penalty, while rioting with a deadly weapon can lead to imprisonment for up to a decade along with corporal punishment. Importantly, women cannot be subjected to caning under these circumstances.
As investigations continue, all six suspects remain in custody, with their next court appearance scheduled for the coming week. This tragic case underscores the seriousness of gang violence and its lasting impact on communities, prompting discussions about measures needed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Stay tuned as more details emerge regarding the investigation and its broader implications for public safety in Singapore.
