Shocking Allegations: Penang Senator Under Investigation for Forcing Bodyguard to Consume Pork

2024-09-30

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang police are currently finalizing an investigation concerning a defamation case involving a senator accused of compelling his Muslim bodyguard to eat pork, an act that has ignited widespread outrage and debate about religious sensitivity in Malaysia.

Penang police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad confirmed that authorities have recorded statements from four individuals, including the senator, to help complete the investigation documentation. "Once completed, the investigation paper will be submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s office for further directives," he stated during a recent formal event at the North East Police District (IPD) headquarters.

The investigation was initiated following a police report filed by the senator himself on Thursday night, where he claimed to be a victim of defamation regarding the serious allegations. Furthermore, his bodyguard has also come forward, submitting a police report to refute the claims made against him.

This incident is not the only concern for Penang police, as they are also in pursuit of a gang of Vietnamese burglars linked to a series of break-ins at factories and offices across Penang and Kedah. The hunt intensified after two other Vietnamese men were shot dead by police during an operation on Jalan Bukit Panchor early Friday morning.

Additionally, the police are looking into a troubling TikTok podcast that went viral, where a 26-year-old woman alleged that she had been coerced into prostitution by an unlicensed money lending syndicate, locally referred to as "Along." She claimed that her father's debts, amounting to RM20,000, led to her being forced into this harrowing situation. Law enforcement is actively trying to track her down for assistance.

The ongoing investigations highlight pressing issues of societal safety and the delicate balance between personal freedom and the law, prompting discussions on how Malaysia can better protect its citizens in vulnerable situations.

In other news, during a recent ceremony, ACP Muhammad Halim Yatim, who served for over three decades, has retired, with ACP Razlam Ab Hamid ascending to the position of North East district police chief. This change in leadership comes amidst a flux of challenges facing the police department, drawing attention to the need for effective law enforcement in the region.
