Exciting Developments for the PSP in GE2025
SINGAPORE – The opposition Progress Singapore Party (PSP) is making waves by officially announcing its candidates for the upcoming 2025 General Election, showcasing experienced players in the political arena for both Marymount and Kebun Baru constituencies!
Meet the Candidates: Jeffrey Khoo and Tony Tan
First up is Mr. Jeffrey Khoo, 56, a familiar face for voters in Marymount. Having been part of the PSP’s standout team in the 2020 elections, he is ready to leverage his past experience to make a difference. Speaking at Bishan North Shopping Mall on April 17, Khoo shared his insights, stating, 'We have been here before,' reflecting on their previous efforts in the area.
Khoo, a chief executive at a regional risk consulting firm, is particularly passionate about addressing key issues affecting Singaporeans, including the ever-pressing matters of cost of living, education, and job security. He noted, 'Our conversations will always revolve around the same concerns, no matter where we are.'
Joining him is Tony Tan, 55, a former National Solidarity Party member, who will represent Kebun Baru under the PSP banner. With a background as a Singapore Armed Forces scholarship holder and a robust engineering career, Tony aims to enhance social support and education in Singapore.
Vision for a Better Singapore
Tony Tan expressed his desire to foster inclusivity, stating, 'We should strive not to leave anyone behind.' As a devoted volunteer with PSP since its inception in 2019, he is focused on maximizing the potential of every Singaporean.
Legacy of Strong Leadership
Both candidates were introduced by party founder Dr. Tan Cheng Bock, who at 85, remains enthusiastic about contributing to Singapore’s political landscape. He emphasized the importance of having a strong opposition voice in Parliament to advocate for citizens' concerns.
While the People’s Action Party (PAP) has yet to announce their candidates, Khoo is expected to contort against incumbent MP Ms. Gan Siow Huang, who is keen to defend her seat. Similarly, Tony Tan will face the PAP’s Mr. Henry Kwek.
A Potential Three-Cornered Fight?
In a twist, another opposition party, the People’s Alliance for Reform (PAR), has also expressed intentions to contest in Marymount, setting the stage for a potential three-way showdown. PSP chief Leong Mun Wai is in discussions with PAR to navigate this exciting electoral landscape.
As the electoral battlefield heats up, all eyes will be on how these seasoned candidates stand against their PAP counterparts and strive to carve out a brighter future for Singaporeans.
