PSP Prepares for General Election 2025

In a bold statement, the Progress Singapore Party (PSP) is adamant that they are ready for the upcoming 2025 General Election, asserting that their dedication hasn't waned despite recent redrawn electoral boundaries. Party leader Leong Mun Wai emphasized their relentless efforts in Parliament over the last five years, claiming to have tabled over 700 parliamentary questions and spearheaded significant initiatives.

A Legacy of Advocacy

Leong, alongside first vice-chairperson Hazel Poa, highlighted their commitment to advocacy, noting the introduction of a private member's Bill—the only one from an opposition member. 'Our track record speaks for itself. We’re prepared to share our vision of “Progress For All” with Singaporeans,' Leong stated, referencing the party's newly adopted slogan.

An Energized Meeting at Party Headquarters

On April 15, as the election timeline became official with voting set for May 3, enthusiastic PSP members gathered at their headquarters to strategize. Notable potential candidates like Lawrence Pek, Sani Ismail, and Wendy Low were seen arriving, fueling speculation about the party's upcoming line-up.

Countdown to the Election Begins!

As nomination day approaches on April 23, candidates will have just nine days to campaign before the Cooling-off Day on May 2. This upcoming election will mark Lawrence Wong's debut as Prime Minister, following the dissolution of Parliament.

A Shift in Electoral Landscape

The recent changes in electoral boundaries, particularly in the contested West Coast GRC, have drawn attention. In the last election, PSP narrowly lost to the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) with just 51.68% of the vote. The reconfigured constituency, now known as West Coast-Jurong West GRC, will create new opportunities as it absorbs regions from Jurong GRC.

Reflecting on Past Achievements

To showcase their accomplishments, the PSP released a nearly five-minute video detailing the issues they addressed over the past five years, including the GST hike and housing affordability. The message was clear: 'As fully elected MPs, we will strive to do even better for the people of Singapore,' reiterated the PSP.

PSP's Plans for the Future

Looking ahead, the PSP intends to field candidates in various constituencies, including West Coast-Jurong West, Chua Chu Kang GRC, and several Single Member Constituencies (SMCs). With the backdrop of global economic challenges, this election could be pivotal for the opposition party, as they seek to establish a stronger connection with voters and solidify their presence on the political landscape.
