The Frustration of Delayed Notifications
For motorists, receiving a traffic summons is already an unpleasant experience. Yet for Angeline, a driver in Singapore, the ordeal took a turn for the bizarre. She received a summons for a violation that supposedly occurred back in November 2024, but the notice only arrived in her mailbox in May 2025—six months later!
"Why did it take so long? I can hardly remember where I was driving at that time!" Angeline exclaimed, clearly exasperated by the delay.
Appeal and Additional Woes
In an attempt to address the situation, Angeline lodged an appeal on July 15 but has yet to hear back. Despite her frustration, she paid the fine ahead of the July 31 deadline, trying to comply as best as she could.
Things took another confusing turn when she was informed she needed to complete a safe driving course as a penalty for her traffic violation. To her dismay, she received two letters regarding this requirement—one dated July 30 and another on August 5. But, she discovered them only on August 26 after checking her mailbox, which she does daily.
A Tight Deadline and High-Handedness
Both letters gave her minimal time to respond, stating she must register for the course by August 30. This left her just four days to take action, intensifying her frustration.
Angeline vented her frustration at what she terms the "high-handedness" of the Traffic Police, criticizing their delayed correspondence and the burden placed on motorists. "They don't adhere to the service standards they claim to follow, especially when it comes to responding to appeals. I've never encountered such a lack of efficiency with any other branch of Singapore's Civil Service," she stated.
What Do You Think?
Angeline's story raises important questions about administrative efficiency and communication in public service. Have you had similar experiences with traffic violations? Share your thoughts on Stomping Ground, and let’s get the conversation started!
