Professor Hay joined north Staffordshire in 1994 as a consultant and senior lecturer in community rheumatology at the Haywood Hospital and Keele University. By 2004, she had ascended to the role of professor of community rheumatology and became one of the founding members of Keele's research institute for primary care and health sciences.
