New ERP Rates Unveiled!
SINGAPORE – Brace yourselves, drivers! Starting September 1, the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) rates will increase by $1 at five key locations, as announced by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on August 27.
Where Will the Increases Happen?
While specific gantry locations weren’t detailed in the announcement, the LTA assures that if a location has multiple gantries, motorists will only need to pay at one of them.
Why the Price Hike?
The decision comes after the LTA closely monitored July's traffic conditions, which revealed significant congestion on various expressway stretches. The rate increase aims to ease this build-up and promote smoother traffic flow.
What About Other Locations?
No changes are being made to the rates at other gantries, but the LTA is committed to keeping a watchful eye on traffic speeds and congestion levels. Based on ongoing assessments, further adjustments to ERP rates may be necessary in the future.
Traffic Under Scrutiny!
Currently, the LTA is particularly focusing on traffic along the northbound Central Expressway (CTE) and the southbound Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE). They’ve noted that speeds in these areas have been "persistently" falling below the optimal range of 45 km/h to 65 km/h, indicating a need for ongoing monitoring and potential intervention.
