Flu Season Surges: Why You Need to Get Vaccinated NOW!

As the winter months settle in, health experts are ringing the alarm bells: influenza is poised to take center stage among respiratory illnesses, and the next two months could be critical. With the flu virus on the rise, it is more important than ever for individuals, especially those in high-risk categories, to get vaccinated and adopt preventive measures.

Recent data reveals that doctor visits for flu-like symptoms have surged, with 5% of all consultations last week indicating potential influenza cases. Alarmingly, 15% of those patients tested positive for the virus. Since the beginning of October, there have been seven reported cases that required intensive care, and tragically, one death linked to the flu has been confirmed.

Fortunately, vaccination efforts are making headway this year, with nearly 600,000 more individuals receiving flu vaccinations than in the previous year. This surge in immunization can be largely attributed to recent policy changes that permit pharmacies to administer flu shots without requiring a doctor's prescription. Apostolos Valtas, president of Greece’s Pharmaceutical Association, noted that this has significantly encouraged citizens to take steps towards safeguarding their health.

While the focus is on influenza, it's important to remember that Covid-19 continues to impact healthcare systems, albeit at lower levels than initially anticipated. Officials are stressing the importance of flu vaccinations, particularly as holiday gatherings approach. Protecting yourself and your loved ones during these festive times is crucial, especially for the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.

Don't let the flu catch you off guard this season! Get vaccinated and ensure you and your family are protected against the looming threat of influenza. Remember, prevention is better than cure—schedule your flu shot today!
