In a bold move that sets the tone for the upcoming breeding season, Newgate Farm has unveiled its 2025 stallion fees, unveiling significant increases for two of its star stallions: Extreme Choice and Stay Inside. This announcement comes just ahead of the highly anticipated Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and signifies Newgate's continued commitment to staying at the forefront of the breeding industry.

Extreme Choice Shatters Records

Leading the charge is the remarkable Extreme Choice, whose fee has skyrocketed from $275,000 to an eye-watering $330,000 (including GST), making him the equal-highest priced stallion in Australian history. Known as a statistical wonder, Extreme Choice has proven his mettle as a sire with 14 stakes winners and an impressive total of five individual Group 1 winners thus far in the 2024/25 racing season alone.

One of Extreme Choice's standout progeny, Knight’s Choice, shocked the racing community by winning the prestigious G1 Melbourne Cup, while another, Devil Night, claimed victory at the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes. Extreme Choice has the unique distinction of being the only stallion to sire winners of the Blue Diamond, Melbourne Cup, and G1 Golden Slipper Stakes—an impressive feat that solidifies his status in the breeding world.

Bruce Slade, Newgate's director of bloodstock, commented, “He’s had a massive year. Not only did he produce a Blue Diamond winner and a Melbourne Cup winner, but he also holds the highest Group 1 strike rate globally, surpassing renowned stallions like Dubawi and Frankel.”

Stay Inside Rising Fast

Following closely behind is Stay Inside, the Golden Slipper-winning son of Extreme Choice. His fee will increase from $55,000 to $66,000 (including GST), thanks to the impressive sale prices of his first yearlings, some reaching up to $1 million. Slade is confident that Stay Inside will quickly reach full booking status this season, with unprecedented demand from breeders keen to access the bloodline of Extreme Choice.

Cosmic Force and Other Stallions on the Rise

Additionally, Cosmic Force has seen a fee increase back to his original $16,500 (including GST) after a successful year, including the emergence of his promising offspring like Give Me Space, who not only won stakes earlier this year but also showed potential in subsequent races.

Conversely, four stallions on the roster will see fee reductions. Capitalist, once a powerhouse in juvenile racing, will have his fee cut to $44,000 (including GST), aiming to attract more breeders and capitalize on his hold as a leading sire of juvenile winners. Russian Revolution and North Pacific will also see slight drops in fees to $33,000 and $11,000, respectively, as they look to invite more breeders to consider their high-quality progeny.

The Landscape Ahead

The remaining stallions on Newgate's roster will maintain their 2024 fees, with no new additions scheduled for this season. However, Slade has indicated that there may be room for surprise entries as they navigate through the breeding landscape.

As the quiet before the breeding storm settles in, Newgate Farm is committed to providing competitive pricing and opportunities for breeders to maximize their investments in this dynamic market. Breeders are being urged to take advantage of the relatively low fees now, especially for stallions like North Pacific and Russian Revolution, before their prices potentially surge with the arrival of successful runners.

Stay tuned as Newgate Farms embarks on what promises to be an exhilarating breeding season filled with high stakes and exciting prospects!
