In 2024, IWC Schaffhausen has truly made waves with its iconic Portugieser collection, celebrated for its classic and sophisticated design. Among the highlights of this year's offerings is the stunning Portugieser Eternal Calendar, which earned its place as one of the best watches of the year. But that's just the tip of the iceberg! At Watches & Wonders 2024, IWC unveiled a range of exciting updates, including vibrant new colors for their chronographs and refined versions of the well-loved Portugieser 40 and 42 Automatic.

Now, for the first time, IWC introduces luxurious red gold versions of the IW3584 (40mm) and IW5017 (42mm) models, masterfully combining elegance with a timeless aesthetic. With the classic gold case paired with a silver-toned dial, these watches embody what it means to be luxury timepieces in their finest forms.

The recent updates to the Portugieser models, which took place in April 2024, were marked by subtle but impactful changes. The redesigned cases feature slimmer profiles thanks to newly crafted, thinner middle cases and box-shaped sapphire crystals that enhance their sleek appearance. The Portugieser 40 Automatic maintains its dimensions at 40.4mm x 12.4mm, while shifting its reference to IW3584. Although the movement remains unchanged, the introduction of vibrant new colors like Horizon Blue and Obsidian Black brings a fresh perspective to the collection.

Stepping up to the larger Portugieser 42 Automatic, launched in 2000, this impressive watch retains its iconic ultra-wide dial, showcasing a small seconds display and a power reserve indicator essential for its seven-day power reserve functionality. The new IW5017 reference continues to uphold the same proportions while providing a more slender look, thanks to the introduction of domed crystals. Notably, the movement has evolved from the calibre 52010 to the upgraded calibre 50211, which now boasts enhanced magnetic protection. Enthusiasts can expect a stunning palette of colors, including Horizon Blue, Dune, Obsidian Black, Silver, and Deep Blue to suit individual tastes.

In addition to these modern aesthetics, IWC recognizes the value of timeless design by reintroducing classic core models. The new 18-carat red gold options laser-focus on elegance with silver-toned dials, applied markers, and graceful leaf-shaped hands that beautifully match the cases. It's worth noting that the distinction between the two models lies not only in their size but also in their layout: the 40mm version features a simple no-date small seconds display, whilst the 42mm edition gracefully incorporates a date function alongside the small seconds and power reserve indicator.

It’s time to elevate your watch collection with these exquisite IWC Portugieser models that are set to become beloved classics for years to come. Don’t miss your chance to own a piece of luxury history that merges functionality with stunning design!
