Chinese Astronauts Successfully Complete Spectacular 8.5-Hour Spacewalk to Install Vital Debris Shields on Tiangong Space Station!

In an exciting display of human ingenuity and bravery, two Chinese astronauts, Cai Xuzhe and Song Lingdong, have completed their second spacewalk as part of the groundbreaking Shenzhou 19 mission. This intense 8.5-hour extravehicular activity (EVA) took place on January 20, 2025, at 12:12 p.m. EST, marking yet another milestone for China’s ambitious space program.

Supported by their fellow crew member Wang Haoze from within the safety of the Tiangong space station, Cai and Song undertook critical tasks aimed at enhancing the safety and functionality of this pioneering space facility. According to Li Zhihai, an engineer from the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), the decision to enhance debris protection has never been more urgent. "The risk of collisions from space debris in our orbital environment has grown significantly. We have meticulously selected specialized materials and designed robust protective devices to address this issue," he explained during a broadcast with China Central Television (CCTV).

It's worth noting that this EVA follows their previous record-setting spacewalk in December 2024, showcasing the astronauts' growing experience and the advancements made in China's space exploration capabilities. The pair initially focused their efforts on reinforcing the Tianhe core module of Tiangong. Now, their efforts are channeling towards fortifying the Wentian experiment module.
