A dramatic fire erupted late last night at an HDB block on Chai Chee Avenue, sending four individuals to the hospital and leading to the evacuation of around 50 residents.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received the emergency call at approximately 11:05 PM, rushing to Block 31 where flames were reported blazing in the living room of an eighth-floor unit.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze with a water jet and thankfully found no one inside the affected flat at the time.

However, three nearby residents suffered from smoke inhalation—two were promptly transported to Changi General Hospital, while the third was taken to Singapore General Hospital. Additionally, a firefighter also required medical attention for smoke inhalation.

As a safety precaution, about 50 residents were evacuated from the building. The cause of this concerning fire is currently under investigation.

Marvellous community spirit emerged as East Coast GRC MP Tan Kiat How expressed gratitude towards the SCDF, East Coast Town Council, and local volunteers for their swift response in assisting those affected. The Residents’ Network center was opened for seniors to find solace, and refreshments were provided.

To address the immediate needs, the town council team worked diligently to restore electricity and water services to the impacted units and has committed to cleaning communal areas and repainting the building's façade.

Mr. Tan also confirmed that temporary accommodation has been arranged for residents whose homes suffered significant damage.
