A relentless downpour has unleashed devastating floods across three districts in Johor, resulting in the urgent evacuation of more than 750 residents.

Evacuation Details

The Johor Disaster Management Committee confirmed that a staggering total of 221 families have been relocated to 10 temporary relief centres (PPS) located in the worst-hit areas: Kulai, Pontian, and Johor Bahru.

Casualty Reports

As of 4 AM on March 20, the committee reported that 753 individuals have been rescued from submerged regions, with Johor Bahru bearing the brunt of the disaster with 461 evacuees. Kulai and Pontian follow, with 235 and 57 people evacuated, respectively.

Forecast and Warnings

Authorities anticipate that this number may further escalate as reports pour in from affected neighborhoods still facing severe conditions. In response to the ongoing crisis, Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi has urged locals to remain vigilant and adhere strictly to official directives, warning that heavy rainfall is expected to continue right up until March 21.

Safety Measures

The Menteri Besar also emphasized the importance of safety: "I implore all Johoreans to remain alert and follow any directives issued by the authorities to safeguard themselves and their families." An orange alert has been issued for severe rainfall in key areas including Kluang, Mersing, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, and Johor Bahru, while a yellow alert for continuous rainfall is in effect for regions like Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, and Batu Pahat.
