That's the reality for actor Calvert Tay, son of beloved entertainers Hong Huifang and Zheng Geping, and younger brother to actress Tay Ying. This 25-year-old has recently opened up about his ambitions and the unique pressures that come with being part of a celebrity family.

In a candid interview with Zaobao.sg, Tay discusses his journey in the industry, acknowledging that he hasn't appeared in as many productions as his renowned family. Since making his debut in Mediacorp's 'While We Are Young' in 2017, he has also starred in the drama 'First Of April' last year.

Despite the weight of expectation, Tay maintains a refreshing perspective. He stated, "I don’t care too much about awards or fame. I just want to give my best." His nonchalance towards the pressures of being a second-generation star is inspiring; he describes his upbringing as having acclimatized him to comparisons.

"My sister and I have grown used to it. People will always compare us to our family, but I’ve learned to laugh it off," he shared.

While he hasn't yet shared the screen with his family, when asked who he'd like to collaborate with the most, Tay didn't hesitate: his sister. "It seems like it would be fun!" he exclaimed.

But working alongside his mother? That's a different story. Tay hesitates, admitting, "Her acting is on another level!" He recounted a particularly nerve-wracking moment when he asked her to rehearse a scene with him. When asked about his focus between acting and music, Tay firmly states he won't choose. "Both are essential to me. Acting allows me to escape into a character, while music lets me express my innermost feelings," he explained.

However, he humbly acknowledges that his craft still has room for growth. "Acting requires a deep introspection, and entering a character's world can be tough. I know I have much to learn." He faces similar challenges in music, admitting there are periods when inspiration eludes him.

"I once endured two months without any creative output. The more anxious I became, the tougher it got. So, I take a break and let my inspiration find me in its own time," he noted, emphasizing the importance of patience in the creative process.
