Introduction

SINGAPORE: Big news for nearly 2.9 million eligible Singaporeans aged 21 and above! This December, the government will be distributing cash payouts between S$200 (approximately US$148) and S$600 to alleviate the rising cost of living. This significant one-off cash payment is part of the government’s Assurance Package, aimed especially at supporting lower- to middle-income families through tough economic times.

Government Announcements

In an exciting announcement, officials from the Ministry of Finance (MOF), Ministry of Health (MOH), and Ministry of Manpower (MOM) declared that this initiative has been bolstered by an additional S$1.9 billion allocation during Budget 2024. “Eligible adult Singaporeans will receive various benefits in December to help relieve financial pressures, offset healthcare expenses, and enhance retirement savings,” they stated.

Additional Benefits

But that's not all! In addition to the cash payouts, approximately 1.4 million Singaporeans, born between 1974 and 2003, will also benefit from a one-time MediSave top-up ranging from S$300 to S$500. Meanwhile, the Majulah Package - MediSave Bonus will provide around 1.6 million older Singaporeans, born in 1973 or earlier, with a substantial one-time MediSave top-up of either S$1,250 or S$2,000.

Healthcare Support

These measures are part of a broader plan to enhance public healthcare support, particularly in light of rising MediShield Life premiums. “These MediSave top-ups were enhanced in October 2024 as additional government support,” explained the ministries, stating that these initiatives will cover healthcare costs for up to 3 million Singaporeans.

Retirement Savings Bonus

Additionally, under the same Majulah Package, about 800,000 eligible seniors born in 1973 or earlier will receive a one-time Retirement Savings Bonus between S$1,000 and S$1,500 credited directly to their Central Provident Fund (CPF) accounts, depending on their accumulated CPF retirement savings.

If you're one of the eligible recipients, rest assured that payments will be automatically credited to you in December, based on your preferred payment method.
