In an exhilarating finale held on March 23, Yugesh Kannan, a 23-year-old political science student, emerged as the champion of V Supreme, Mediacorp’s highly anticipated Indian talent hunt competition. His outstanding performance not only earned him the coveted title but also a substantial cash prize of S$10,000 (approximately US$7,430).
The event was hosted by Vishnu M Anandh, an acclaimed actor-entertainer known for winning the Best Actor Award at Vasantham's Pradhana Vizha 2024. Yugesh mesmerized judges and attendees alike with his vibrant stage presence and remarkable talent throughout the competition, leading him to clinch the ultimate victory.
Yugesh’s journey to the top was competitive; he narrowly outperformed fellow contestants Sheena, 20, who secured second place with S$6,000, and Yazhini, 18, who finished in third and took home S$3,000. Other finalists included Krishmita, 20; Alex, 21; and Ashraf, 24, who claimed fourth, fifth, and sixth places, respectively, each receiving S$1,500.
V Supreme was launched to shine a spotlight on emerging talents in Singapore’s Indian entertainment arena. The competition began with 12 aspiring performers, each carefully selected from a pool of hundreds during auditions held in October 2023. Throughout the competition, these contestants underwent rigorous training and faced a myriad of challenges spanning acting, dancing, and hosting, ultimately narrowing down to the final six.
At the thrilling grand finale, the finalists showcased their versatility through a series of scripted and spontaneous challenges, including acting tasks and live hosting segments. The event featured special appearances by renowned veteran actors such as Ashwini Nair, Bharathi Rani, Kishore Kumaran, and Sivakumar Palakrishnan, adding to the excitement of the night.
The judging panel comprised notable figures in the industry, including singer-model Annetha Ayyavoo, actor Jabur Deen Faruk, multihyphenate Jaenani Netra, and media veteran JK Saravana. They evaluated finalists based on criteria such as stage presence, creativity, technical skills, and audience engagement. The overall rankings were determined through a blend of judges' scores and a public voting segment.
Expressing his exhilaration, Yugesh shared, “Winning V Supreme feels like a dream come true. This journey has been incredibly challenging, but I am grateful for the experience, the friendships made, and the chance to showcase what I love doing. I could not have done it without the amazing mentors, judges, and everyone who believed in me. I’m excited to see where this journey takes me next!”
As the excitement from this year's competition fades, it leaves many wondering what the future holds for this talented young student and the other finalists. With the growing popularity and support for such platforms, we may yet see more extraordinary talents emerge from Singapore’s vibrant entertainment scene!
