As Holy Week wraps up, Warner Bros is banking on a big win with their $90 million epic, ‘Sinners.’ This ambitious film is projected to rake in over $40 million during its opening weekend across the U.S. and Canada.

In the realm of box office comparisons, Jordan Peele’s sci-fi thriller ‘Nope’ debuted with $44.3 million and concluded with a domestic total of $123.2 million. ‘Sinners’ promises a captivating performance from Michael B. Jordan, marking his fifth collaboration with director Ryan Coogler. However, it comes with a higher price tag, at least 32% more than ‘Nope’s’ $68 million budget.

Set in 1932, ‘Sinners’ unfolds the tale of twin brothers, Smoke and Stack, both portrayed by Jordan, who are drawn back to their Mississippi roots to launch a juke joint. Their venture is successful, but chaos soon follows as night descends.

The film’s previews will begin at 3 PM this Thursday, with premium viewing experiences available, including IMAX and Dolby formats. Early tracking shows enthusiasm from male audiences, especially those under 25, and indications suggest they are ahead of ‘Nope’ and nearing the impressive figures of Peele’s ‘Us,’ which opened at $71.1 million.

On the international front, ‘Sinners’ is looking at a $60 million global forecast, set to play in 16,600 screens across 71 territories, including major markets like the UK, Germany, and Australia.

Critics are responding well, with a 99% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes— a strong indication of potential crossover appeal beyond its core Black audience, capturing the interest of cinephiles and urban filmgoers alike. Although projections recently settled at $35 million, a last-minute marketing blitz has seen presales surge ahead of ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’.

The timing couldn't be better for ‘Sinners’ as Good Friday approaches, traditionally a big cinematic day thanks to many K-12 schools and colleges on break.

Warner Bros may very well dominate the weekend with both ‘Sinners’ and ‘A Minecraft Movie’ potentially raking in over $40 million each. Past Easter successes for the studio include ‘Batman v. Superman’ and ‘Godzilla x Kong,’ with the last time they led the holiday frame being 2019.
