UFC Vegas 101 Weigh-In Results: Shocking Weight Misfires Ahead of Exciting Showdown!

As UFC enters the highly anticipated year of 2025, the official weigh-ins for UFC Vegas 101 brought both excitement and some unexpected twists. Headlining the main event, strawweight contenders Mackenzie Dern and Amanda Ribas successfully made weight, both clocking in at the limit of 116 pounds, utilizing the allowance for non-title bouts. This upcoming clash marks a rematch from their first encounter in October 2019, where Ribas triumphed via unanimous decision.

However, not all fighters were as fortunate on the scales. In a surprising turn, two preliminary fighters failed to meet their weight requirements. Jose Johnson, standing tall at 6 feet, weighed in at 128.5 pounds, surpassing the flyweight limit by 2.5 pounds. This marked his second attempt in the flyweight division after previously dropping down from bantamweight – his last bout saw him successfully weigh in at 126 pounds before losing to Asu Almabayev.

Adding to the drama, Ihor Potieria couldn't make the grade either, coming in at a hefty 188 pounds, two pounds over the middleweight limit. After transitioning to middleweight last year from light heavyweight, Potieria faced weight issues before, missing by 1.5 pounds in his division debut. Despite winning his initial fight post-transition, he faced two subsequent losses, which only adds to the pressure going into this catchweight fight.

The UFC has confirmed that Johnson's contest against Felipe Bunes and Potieria's fight with Marco Tulio will proceed as catchweight bouts. Johnson will lose 20% of his purse as a penalty for missing weight, while Potieria faces a heavier penalty of 25%.
