A New Mindset for a New Season
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- After a rollercoaster 2024 season that turned heads for all the wrong reasons, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is ready to shift gears as he enters his fourth year with the team. Having faced a series of challenges both on and off the field, Hill is determined to turn his narrative around.
Recovery and Reflection
Following a wrist surgery that sidelined him since the end of last season, Hill participated in limited activities at the Dolphins' OTA practice this week. This is Hill's first public appearance since hinting at a trade request post the Dolphins' painful loss to the New York Jets in January, a match in which he also chose to sit out the second half, much to Coach Mike McDaniel's dismay.
Letting Go and Moving Forward
Reflecting on a year filled with turmoil, Hill expressed frustration over the Dolphins missing the playoffs for the first time in his career. Despite the low points, he has come to terms with his comments about possibly leaving the team, vowing to stay committed and prove himself worthy of leadership in the locker room. "I want to chase greatness, chase 2,000 receiving yards, and achieve playoff dreams," he declared.
A Journey of Self-Improvement
Hill's off-field decisions have often landed him in headlines, including a recent domestic dispute that led to his wife's divorce filing. In response to his struggles, the five-time All-Pro has been focusing on personal growth, attending therapy and church. "It's tough, but I'm working through it. I just want to be a great father and a reliable teammate," he said.
Building Bridges in the Locker Room
This offseason, Hill has made a concerted effort to engage with his teammates and coaching staff, even treating them to dinner at the start of the program. New wide receivers coach Robert Prince has praised Hill's commitment to fostering a team-first culture.
Aiming for Captaincy Once Again
While Hill has been a captain in his previous three seasons, he acknowledges that he needs to earn that title again after his recent behavior. "I've got to prove myself during OTAs and training camp. If I don’t earn it, I won’t dwell on it," he asserted.
New Goals and a Leaner Physique
With a goal of maximizing his performance, Hill has also taken his fitness more seriously, shedding weight and enhancing his endurance for crucial moments. Now weighing in at 183 pounds, down from 197, he believes this will help him avoid fatigue and excel on the field. "I've committed to eating right, training hard, and staying hydrated. It’s about pushing myself to improve every day," Hill concluded. As he gears up for the new season, Hill is on a mission to redefine his legacy and lead the Dolphins to greater heights.
