Greenfield expressed his discontent in a poignant letter shared by co-founder Ben Cohen on social media platform X. He lamented that the freedom to address pressing social concerns, once a staple of the brand's identity, has been choked off under Unilever’s corporate umbrella.

"For more than two decades under Unilever’s ownership, Ben & Jerry's has been a champion of peace, justice, and human rights—vital issues tied directly to real-world events," Greenfield articulated. He recalled the unique merger agreement that was supposed to safeguard their mission but has ultimately faltered, stating, "It’s deeply disappointing to recognize that our foundational independence is now a thing of the past."
