In a stunning move that has fans buzzing, the New England Patriots have released 2022 first-round draft pick Cole Strange as they finalize their roster cuts to meet the league's 53-man requirement. The decision comes despite alarmingly thin depth on the offensive line.

Strange, who was selected 29th overall after a surprising choice by Bill Belichick, played 29 games for the team, making significant contributions. However, his journey met a downturn this season, as he was demoted after just one week of training camp under new head coach Mike Vrabel.

Originally projected to be a starter, Strange's role shifted to that of a second- and third-unit center as the Patriots prepare to rely on third-round pick Jared Wilson from the University of Georgia to fill the left guard position, with seasoned veteran Ben Brown as the primary backup.

After struggling with a severe knee injury that sidelined him for most of last season, Strange returned healthy and even earned accolades during the offseason. However, the team's reliance on new talent has forced tough choices.

In addition to Strange, the Patriots placed wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk, a second-round pick, on injured reserve, ruling him out for the entire 2025 season. Veteran linebacker Jahlani Tavai was also placed on IR but could potentially return this year. Furthermore, fifth-round pick Bradyn Swinson from LSU was waived as part of the roster clean-up.

With the roster still in flux, Vrabel hinted at more changes to come in New England. Impressively, eight receivers made the initial cut, highlighted by none other than superstar Stefon Diggs. As the Patriots keep nine offensive linemen, rookie Caedan Wallace has secured a spot as a backup guard for the time being.

This roster shake-up proves that the Patriots are serious about heading into the season competing fiercely, but the departure of Strange leaves fans questioning the direction of the offensive line. Stay tuned as more changes are on the horizon!
