Hong Kong Customs Strikes Again!

In a stunning operation, Hong Kong Customs has seized around 3,100 suspected counterfeit mobile phones, valued at a whopping $4.6 million, at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) on August 19.

Inside the Operation

Thanks to meticulous risk assessment, Customs officers intercepted a suspicious lorry at the HZMB Hong Kong Port. Upon inspection, they discovered a trove of fake smartphones hidden within the cargo compartment. The driver, a 56-year-old man, was promptly arrested.

The Plot Thickens

Preliminary investigations suggest the counterfeit phones were destined for overseas markets, raising concerns about the scale of the operation. While the suspect has been released on bail, investigations are ongoing.

Fighting Back Against Counterfeits

Hong Kong Customs is committed to cracking down on counterfeit goods and smuggling activities. They utilize risk assessments and intelligence analysis to bolster their enforcement efforts. Under the harsh penalties of the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, offenders can face fines up to $500,000 and five years behind bars for trafficking in goods marked with forged trademarks.
