A Historic Milestone for Hong Kong

In an exciting development, Hong Kong is gearing up to host its first-ever National Games this November, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Guangdong and Macau. Over 16,000 enthusiastic volunteers have stepped forward to support this monumental occasion, including the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games.

Pledging Ceremony at Queen Elizabeth Stadium

The vibrant atmosphere kicked off with a grand pledging ceremony held at Queen Elizabeth Stadium, officiated by the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Rosanna Law. During this inspiring event, nearly 1,800 volunteers took an oath to serve with unmatched dedication.

Diverse Roles for a Unifying Cause

The volunteers will take on a variety of roles, ensuring a smooth experience for participants and spectators alike. Their responsibilities will range from guest reception and anti-doping support to managing presentation ceremonies. Law highlighted the youthful spirit of the team, which includes around 1,000 volunteers aged between 15 and 17, alongside over 15,000 adults, with assistance from local organizations like the Agency for Volunteer Service.

Star-Studded Support

Adding to the excitement, Olympic gold medallist Vivian Kong and former basketball pro Leung Kwok-shing were named as volunteer ambassadors, showcasing the event's star power. The ceremony also featured an outstanding performance by Hong Kong fencer Ryan Choi, alongside local wheelchair dancers, celebrating the spirit of inclusion.

Ticket Sales and Event Highlights

The National Games will feature a variety of thrilling sporting events, including rugby sevens and beach volleyball. Tickets went on sale on August 28, with prices varying from 50 to 500 yuan, as the city readies itself to host a total of eight National Games events and three Paralympic events at the landmark Kai Tak Sports Park.
