Impressive Growth in Passenger Numbers and Flight Movements

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has announced impressive growth for 2024, welcoming an astounding 53.1 million passengers and facilitating 363,305 flight movements. These figures mark incredible increases of approximately 34.3% and 31.6% respectively when compared to the previous year, 2023.

Surge in Air Traffic in December

In December alone, the air traffic surged, with flight movements up by 12.5% year-on-year to a total of 33,550, coinciding with the airport's transition to its three-runway operation system. Remarkably, daily flight movements exceeded pre-pandemic levels for the first time since COVID-19 disrupted global travel, setting a new record high for the airport.

Passenger Volume Resurgence

Passenger volume in December illustrated the airport's resurgence, climbing 18.3% from the same month last year to reach 5.1 million travelers. All passenger segments displayed substantial growth, with routes to and from Southeast Asia, Mainland China, and Japan showing the most significant spikes in activity.

CEO’s Statement on Achievements

Vivian Cheung, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), expressed pride in the airport's achievements: "The year 2024 has been both fruitful and rewarding for HKIA. We launched the three-runway system in November, precisely on schedule and within our budget, further solidifying our status as the world's busiest cargo airport for the 13th consecutive year since 2010. The Christmas season was bustling, and we are gearing up for another peak during the upcoming Chinese New Year holidays, as airlines ramp up their schedules to accommodate the rising demand."

A Bright Future Ahead

As international travel continues to rebound, HKIA's growth underscores its resilience and pivotal role in connecting Asia and the world. With momentum on its side, the airport is set to remain a key player in global aviation in the years ahead! Could this be the dawn of a new era in air travel? Stay tuned for more updates!
