Next week, Apple fans are gearing up for the highly anticipated unveiling of the AirPods Pro 3, alongside the iPhone 17 and Apple Watch Series 11. However, a new rumor suggests that not everything is going to be ready for the big debut.
An insider source revealed to 9to5Mac that the AirPods Pro 3 will include two innovative health sensors. The first, heart rate monitoring, has long been speculated and is seen as a logical step after its introduction in the Beats Powerbeats Pro 2. But that’s not all—the second sensor, which adds even more intrigue, is reportedly temperature sensing.
While AirPods have primarily been audio devices, Apple is clearly on a mission to transform them into health gadgets. The company took an impressive step in this direction last fall by integrating audio hearing tests and clinical-grade hearing aid functionality.
However, there's a catch: the much-awaited live translation feature might not make it to the AirPods Pro 3 at launch. Renowned journalist Mark Gurman at Bloomberg has been tracking this development, and recent findings from 9to5Mac indicated that the feature is indeed in the works.
But according to the anonymous source, “as rumored earlier, live translation is not ready” and is likely to roll out in a subsequent software update.
Apple has integrated live translation capabilities across various platforms in iOS 26, covering services like FaceTime, yet the company has yet to announce this feature for the AirPods. The speculation has been that Apple intended to showcase it during the AirPods Pro 3 reveal—though it may simply not be ready.
Given Apple’s recent track record of delaying features, including two intelligence updates for Siri, the expectation is that next week’s event might focus on features already available in beta. Stay tuned as we approach the September 9 event!
