Get Ready, Hong Kong Residents!
Starting at noon tomorrow, eligible Hong Kong residents will gain access to Macao's cutting-edge iris-scanning checkpoints! The Public Security Police (PSP) announced this thrilling development, making travel between these two Special Administrative Regions even more convenient.
Who Can Join the Revolution?
Hong Kong permanent residents aged 11 and older can register for this advanced biometric system. It will be available at six bustling checkpoints, including the Border Gate, the Macao Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Macao International Airport, Taipa Ferry Terminal, Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, and Inner Harbour Ferry Terminal.
Fast and Efficient Travel!
Using the iris-scanning channels is a breeze! Simply head to the automated channels with registration capabilities, and the entire process takes around 25 seconds. Don’t worry—manual registration is also available from 10 AM to 7 PM at five of the six ports equipped for iris scanning.
Streamlining Crossings for Everyone!
This innovative measure aims to enhance travel between Macao and Hong Kong. It follows a successful QR code system launched last August, allowing residents bold new ways to navigate between the two cities.
A Tech Upgrade Like No Other!
Currently, there are 81 iris channels at the Macao checkpoints, with 71 featuring second-generation recognition technology that includes larger screens and advanced facial tracking systems for smoother crossings. And there's more: the PSP plans to add 71 more channels this year!
Inclusivity at Heart!
The PSP is also considering extending this service to non-resident workers and long-term students in Macao to further simplify travel. This cutting-edge technology not only makes crossings faster and more hygienic but also accommodates individuals whose fingerprints may not be detected.
Impressive Stats!
As of May, over 300,000 Macao residents have registered for these iris channels, with a staggering 15.78 million utilizing this service. That’s 42% of the traffic for traditional automated channels! Get ready to revolutionize your travel experience!
