In a thrilling display of power, Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh has made history by breaking the record for the most home runs in a single season by a switch hitter, launching his 55th homer just two days after tying Mickey Mantle's long-standing record.

Raleigh's record-breaking moment came during a crucial matchup against the Kansas City Royals, where he smashed a towering 419-foot bomb to right field in the third inning off pitcher Michael Wacha.

But Raleigh’s historic night didn’t stop there. In the fourth inning, he hit another two-run shot, this time batting from the right side, which tied him with Mariners legend Ken Griffey Jr. for the franchise single-season home run record at 56.

This season, Raleigh has displayed remarkable versatility, hitting 35 of his homers from the left and 21 from the right side of the plate, proving his prowess as a switch hitter.

Before surpassing Mantle's record, Raleigh also broke Salvador Perez's record for the most home runs by a catcher in a single season, previously set at 48.

With the Mariners' season winding down and 12 games left to play, Raleigh stands on the brink of another milestone. Six more home runs would see him equal Aaron Judge's record for the most homers in a season by an American League player, which currently sits at 62.

Adding to his list of achievements, Raleigh is also the first switch hitter to ever win the Home Run Derby, having triumphed over Junior Caminero at Atlanta’s Truist Park this past July.

As Mariners fans hold their breath, will Raleigh continue his historic run and etch his name further into the baseball history books?
