Tropical Cyclone Approaches Hong Kong
The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) has announced it will issue the Standby Signal No. 1 this Wednesday evening as a tropical cyclone approaches, currently located near Luzon and moving towards Hong Kong.
Winds of Change: Cyclone Intensifies
This cyclone is predicted to traverse the northeastern area of the South China Sea over the next few days, gradually gaining strength as it heads towards eastern Guangdong. With the northeast monsoon's influence, the cyclone will pivot westward, closing in on the Pearl River Estuary.
Unpredictable Path Ahead
While the HKO cautions about uncertainties regarding the cyclone's landfall position and intensity, it notes that the storm's relatively small circulation means that its significant impact will be felt only when it gets closer to Hong Kong.
Weather Woes: Prepare for Swells and Storms
Residents should prepare for rough seas and an unsettled weather pattern starting Friday, with the storm's outer rainbands expected to bring heavy squally showers and thunderstorms throughout the weekend.
Ongoing Monitoring of Tropical Threats
HKO officials will continuously evaluate the need for higher tropical cyclone warning signals between Thursday and Friday, taking into account the cyclone's potency and its proximity to the city.
Another Storm on the Horizon
In addition, a second tropical cyclone is forecasted to form over the western North Pacific near the Philippines. This storm is anticipated to intensify and could impact the northern South China Sea early next week, potentially posing further threats to southern China.
As midweek approaches, the HKO warns that weather conditions in the region are likely to deteriorate significantly.
