Civic Holiday Weekend: Key Information

Get ready for the Civic Holiday weekend, Waterloo residents! While you plan your festivities, it's crucial to know which services and facilities will be accessible or off-limits. Here's your ultimate guide to navigating the closures and openings this long weekend.

Administrative Buildings

Most regional administrative buildings will be closed, including the following locations:

- 99 Regina St. W, Waterloo

- 150 Frederick St, Kitchener

- 150 Main St, Cambridge

Additionally, the Region of Waterloo Airport Administrative offices and all regional libraries are closed for the day. Don't worry though; the Service First Call Centre will be available 24/7 to assist you!

Cultural Attractions Open!

If you're looking to soak up some culture, you’re in luck! Both the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum and the Schneider Haus National Historic Site will be welcoming visitors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The McDougall Cottage Historic Site will also be open, operating from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Plan a visit and enjoy a slice of history this weekend!

Transportation Updates

Grand River Transit is switching to its holiday schedule, so be mindful if you plan to ride. Note that MobilityPLUS will run, but all pre-scheduled subscription trips will be automatically canceled. Customer Service Centres for GRT will be closed during this time.

Stay Cool!

As temperatures rise, two cooling spaces are available for those in need: one at 150 Main St. in Cambridge and another at 150 Frederick St. in Kitchener, both open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Make sure to stay hydrated and cool!

Garbage Collection

Good news for those with garbage to toss: regular pickup will remain on schedule! However, both the Waterloo and Cambridge Waste Management transfer stations will be closed, so get your garbage out by 7 a.m.!

Child Care and Senior Services

Attention parents and caregivers: all home child care offices will be closed. Licensed care will operate based on the provider's individual schedule. For urgent matters, don't hesitate to call 519-575-4400.

Additionally, the Sunnyside Wellness Centre and administration for Sunnyside Seniors' Services will be closed. Sadly, all community Alzheimer's day programs in Kitchener, Cambridge, and Waterloo will also be on break. However, overnight stays will still be available.
