What You Need to Know About the Measles Alert
Residents of Hastings and Prince Edward Counties, brace yourselves! Public health officials are sounding the alarm over potential new measles exposures in your area. The South East Health Unit (SEHU) has just released an urgent warning regarding several locations where patrons may have come into contact with the highly contagious virus.
Locations at Risk—Check Your Visitation!
If you visited any specific businesses in Picton, Bloomfield, or Trenton recently, particularly on certain dates announced by SEHU, you need to keep a close watch on your health. Even a brief stop at these places could put you at risk for measles.
Who Is Most at Risk?
The health unit emphasizes that certain groups are particularly vulnerable to this illness. This includes those who are immunocompromised, infants under one year old, individuals born after 1970 who are not fully vaccinated, pregnant women, and healthcare or childcare workers without proof of immunity or two doses of the measles vaccine. If you belong to one of these categories and visited the exposed locations, it's crucial that you reach out to SEHU.
Immediate Action Required!
Those who believe they may have been exposed should call the SEHU at 613-966-5500, ext. 349 during regular business hours.
Why You Shouldn't Ignore This Warning!
Measles is no minor illness! It can lead to serious health complications such as diarrhea, ear infections, pneumonia, and in rare cases, severe brain infections or even death. Authorities are urging everyone to take this warning seriously and act swiftly.
