The much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge has officially landed in Canada, creating a buzz among smartphone enthusiasts. Although we've managed to get our hands on this sleek device, our comprehensive review is still on hold due to some unexpected issues with our review unit.
Initially, Samsung sent us a review unit on May 23 with the hope of providing you with a one-week preview before a detailed analysis. However, things didn’t go as planned as the device came with a few glaring flaws.
For starters, the unit displayed an unsightly etching along the bottom of the screen—essentially an engraved serial number that refused to disappear even after multiple resets. Additionally, a persistent notification labeled 'Issue Tracker' remained stubbornly on-screen, despite numerous attempts to disable it via settings.
Samsung assured us that a software update would resolve these concerns, and later promised a replacement device. However, their repeated delays in sending a new unit left us unable to conduct our usual rigorous tests.
Consequently, our ability to assess critical aspects, like battery performance—which is a hot topic among potential buyers—has been compromised. Nevertheless, we did manage to explore other features, such as the camera capabilities and gaming performance. Testing titles like Marvel Snap and navigating Devolver Digital’s reverse horror game Carrion with the Backbone Pro controller demonstrated the device's impressive responsiveness.
What stands out about the S25 Edge is its lightweight and thin design, making it an effortless companion in gaming sessions without excessive bulk. Our initial interactions have shown promising performance, suggesting users can anticipate a smooth experience.
Stay tuned! We expect to receive a new unit by Monday, which will enable us to dive deeper into the S25 Edge's capabilities, including that all-important battery test. In the meantime, enjoy some sneak peek photos we captured with the device!
