Get Ready for the Next Evolution in TV Reviews!
TV 2.0 is on the horizon, promising a groundbreaking transformation in how we evaluate televisions. Almost every facet of our testing procedures has been meticulously overhauled—from the depth of testing criteria to the intricate scoring systems. While there's much more to discover, here’s a sneak peek at the most significant updates coming your way in a matter of weeks.
A Fresh Structure: Say Goodbye to Clutter!
One of the most noticeable upgrades in TV 2.0 is the revamped structure of reviews. In response to feedback about overly lengthy sections filled with unnecessary jargon, we have streamlined everything. Instead of grouping evaluations into six broad categories like in the previous format (TV 1.11), we now categorize our reviews into 12 focused sections—highlighting user experience and making it easier for consumers to find the information they care about most.
The new sections are: - Brightness - Black Level - Color - Processing - Game Mode Responsiveness - Motion Handling - Reflections - Panel - Inputs - Design - Smart Features - Sound Quality
This newly organized layout is still a work-in-progress, and we're open to suggestions on how best to serve your needs!
Revamped Color Volume Testing: Discover the Nuances!
One of the stunning new methodologies includes the introduction of "gamut rings" for analyzing SDR color volume. This innovative visual representation breaks down color lightness, allowing for a clearer comparison of panel performance that previous tests missed. Be on the lookout for how models like the LG C4 and Samsung S95D perform under this new metric.
Enhanced HDR Calibration That Matters!
Arguably one of the hottest topics in TV technology is HDR, which we’ve made strides in understanding by evaluating how well a TV tracks creative intent. In TV 2.0, we’ll measure key metrics like white balance and overall color temperature in HDR10 to give you an accurate picture of your viewing experience—not just on brightness and color ranges.
Reflections: New Tests for Real-World Scenarios!
With the rise of different panel technologies, understanding how reflections impact your picture quality is crucial. Our new tests are designed to quantify this phenomenon better than before, focusing on how a TV performs in varied ambient lighting. Two new tests, “Ambient Black Level Raise” and “Ambient Color Saturation,” will determine how TVs hold up in bright environments, thus enabling you to choose the perfect model for your lifestyle.
Panel Technology Insights: What You Should Know!
In this update, we are introducing the spectral power distribution (SPD) charts for all TVs. This means you'll be able to see the production of light that impacts how colors are represented on-screen. As consumer interest grows in understanding technologies like quantum dots, this insight will help enthusiasts make educated decisions.
Fast-Paced Gaming? We’ve Got You Covered!
With the surge in gaming popularity, input lag measurements and response times have been optimized. We’ve ditched outdated resolutions like 1440p and are now focusing on the highest possible refresh rates available. New tests will account for the latest gaming trends, ensuring your gaming experience is exhilarating and seamless.
Scoring Revamp: Read Between the Lines!
Perhaps the most revolutionary update is how we score TVs. We have reassessed our scoring metrics, removing outdated practices and replacing them with more relevant performance indicators tailored to user needs. The result? A clearer, more truthful representation of how TVs perform in real-world settings. Low-end models that fall short will now reflect their inadequacies—making it easier for you to find the best value for your investment.
What’s Next? Prepare for the Launch!
Expect the full rollout of TV 2.0 soon—by March 26th, we'll begin publishing freshly retested reviews. You'll be among the first to experience our comprehensive insights on the latest models, including the Amazon Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series and the TCL QM6K amongst others.
Join us on this exciting journey with TV 2.0, as we aim for transparently informed consumer choices in the tech marketplace. What functionalities are you most excited to see? Your input matters, and we’re eager to hear your thoughts!
