Selection and Jury

The selection of John as this year’s laureate was made by a diverse 10-member jury, led by former Canadian Prime Minister Kim Campbell. In her statement, Campbell highlighted John's considerable artistic contributions as well as his courage in championing various social causes. "He has bravely engaged with issues such as AIDS, LGBTQ+ rights, and addiction – matters that were often overlooked when he spoke out," she noted.

Traditionally, nominees for the Glenn Gould Prize remain undisclosed, but past winners have predominantly included figures from the music industry. However, the prize's scope encompasses talents from film, television, theater, design, and literature.
