The family of a missing 20-year-old UBC student, Matthew Hutchings, is gripped by fear following his mysterious disappearance on Saturday.

According to the Vancouver Police Department, Matthew was last seen boarding the 99 B-Line bus just after 2 a.m. on May 24, leaving the UBC area. He was expected home that night but never returned. Investigators have traced his potential whereabouts to the intersection of Commercial Drive and Broadway around 6 a.m.

Catherine Brown, Hutchings’ cousin, expressed her deep concern, emphasizing that his sudden vanishing is completely out of character. "He’s such a gentle soul with no enemies, fully immersed in his studies; he’s just a regular, kind-hearted young man," she told 1130 NewsRadio.

Adding to the mystery, Hutchings' wallet and cellphone were discovered at a Safeway close to Commercial Drive and Broadway, intensifying worries for his safety.

Distraught, Hutchings’ father is reportedly devastated, desperately awaiting news about his son. This family is in the throes of uncertainty, as each moment passes brings more anxiety.

To aid in the ongoing search efforts, police have released a photo of Matthew. Described as a 5’10” Indigenous man weighing 140 pounds, with a slim build, curly black hair, and brown eyes, he could be anywhere.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have seen Matthew to call 911 immediately and stay with him until help arrives. Time is of the essence in this heart-wrenching case, as family and friends hold on to hope for his safe return.
