In a shocking revelation from an inquest, the life of 70-year-old Pamela Hall was tragically cut short due to a series of glaring failings across two hospitals. Following her admission to Highbury Hospital on November 2, 2023, Hall was found to be in dire condition, weighing only 26 kg (about 4st 1lb) at the time of her death on November 5.

The Nottingham Coroner's Court uncovered a distressing pattern of negligence at Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. During the proceedings, it was revealed that multiple staff members were suspended as the jury concluded that Hall might have lived longer had she received proper care.

Frightening Mismanagement

Evidence presented at the inquest highlighted severe management failures at Highbury Hospital. The trust admitted to significant oversights, including inadequate handling of pressure sores, failure to maintain food and fluid intake records, and discrepancies in patient observations, where staff sometimes falsely indicated that checks had been completed.

The jury strongly criticized the decision to transfer Hall to Highbury, asserting that she was neither fit for discharge from Nottingham City Hospital nor was she suited for the Cherry ward. Vital blood tests that could have flagged her deteriorating condition were neglected upon her arrival.
